Our house in the country.

Historic train station in downtown area.

Cornelia is the largest town in Habersham County, GA. It has a population of 4000,
not counting the illegal Mexican Invaders. In the late 1800's immigrants from
Scandinavia settled in the area and brought their skill in raising apples. Cornelia
became the apple capital of Georgia. In 1927 the railroad presented the town with a
5200 pound steel and concrete monument to the apples.

Apple tree is mature and produces every year.

Olga has an apple tree near the pool but the wild animals
from the Forest eat them before they are ripe.

House looks much smaller from the outside.

Our property is positioned on the south side of Chenocetah Mountain. In the Cherokee language
this means "to look all around."
The Cherokee tribe inhabited NE Georgia until the late 1800's.

Parking for two cars on the front. 6 cars in the back.

Private parking at the front entrance.

Frog pond has running water.

Small circulating pool in front yard.

This is all forest area.

We live in a very large wooded area of the forest. Only 11 houses in this area,
most of which are not visible from the road in the summer.

Ranger tower is open one day a year for visitors to climb to the top and view.

At the top of the mountain (above our house) is an historic Fire Ranger tower built in 1937.
It is no longer used, but maintained by the National Forestry Service and is
listed as a national historic site. It was one of only two built from Georgia granite.

Chenocetah mountian is the highest is this part of the county.

The mountain is covered with Mountain Laurel in spring. Click on picture for details.

Very large balcony for parties.

The upper level is our viewing balcony.

This is a Bar-B-Q party area.

The lower level is a concrete patio area.

Lots of clean sunlight in the living room.

There are many large windows across the back of the house that help
regulate the temperature inside. In summer the sun is high in the sky
and the house is cool. In winter the sun is low on the horizon and
enters the windows to provide a "greenhouse" effect for low
heating requirements.

On a summer's night there are thousands of frogs singing together.

In summer we really enjoy dinner on our balcony, listening to a frog symphony.

Private apartment entrance on the lower left.

Another deck is for the separate apartment on the ground level.

Our house is on 1 1/2 acres of land and backs up to the forest.

The private rear driveway leads to a 3-car garage. The TV antenna is 1830 feet
above sea level. Atlanta is 70 miles downhill with an altitude is 1100 ft.
In effect, we have a 730 foot high TV antenna for perfect digital and
Hi-Def stations from Atlanta.

Pool has a heater for extended swimming season.

The Pool in the back yard is fully enclosed (to keep the bears and others out.)

Pool has sunshine almost all day, every day.

We are surrounded by forest for complete privacy.

The barn is only slightly visible from the balcony.

We added a new storage building behind the pool.

New Greenhouse

Our new 12' x' 8' Greenhouse is for starting seeds and young plants for spring planting.

The road that leads to our house dead ends so there is no traffic to the lake.

To the left of the pool, at the base of the mountain is Lake Russell, part of the Chattahoochie National Park.
Lake Russel is 2 1/2 miles long and 1 mile wide.

At night the view is almost unlimited.

Our back yard joins the National Forest. There are no houses on this
Federal property. The view from our balcony is unobstructed for more than 10 miles.

This is one of many pictures we have of the changing views.

We are constantly delighted with the many views of the forest. It changes every day.
We have a grand, direct view of the the sunrises and sunsets.
Three miles in the distance is U.S. Highway 441.

In winter you can see the house with most of the leaves gone.

Using a telephoto lens to see our house 3 miles from this highway.

There is practically no industry in Habersham county, so there is very low pollution.

Morning mist at sunrise.

Hunting is permitted in the National Forest to control the large number of deer.

The deer eating grass is a common sight.

Perfect sunrise to the left our our balcony . . . .

Winter Sunrise

. . . and perfect sunset to the right.

Winter Sunset

Ice and snow are very rare. Perhaps one day per winter.

Even winter ice is scenic.

This picture was taken in January 2008

Snow is rare and any snowfall is in January.
